Weehee, I had the pleasure of accompanying Inside Out Magazine and it’s editor Claire Bradley, and Market Editor Joseph Gardner, in collaboration with Bugaboo, on one of their ‘Open for Inspection’ features on the lovely, family home of Lauren and Matt Wilson in Victoria’s Newtown.
A group of us including a swag of interiors buffs, wandered through the house with Claire, Joseph and myself talking about why we thought the house was so bloody fantastic (which it is!) and some of the more interesting features, which greeted us at pretty much every turn.
Lauren and Matt’s house which was built by Matt himself (Built by Wilson is his company) is the perfect example of a super stylish, functional family home. It’s the kind of home which looks like it belongs in a magazine (hello this month’s Inside Out!) but also that it is built to withstand the rough and tumblings of three young boys! It is fun and playful yet oozes quality in fixtures and finishes. Think Carrara marble, American Oak and hints of copper and aqua heaven in lighting and furniture. Oh to have a husband who could build me something like that! (Don’t worry Juddy, you have MAJOR strengths in other areas haha).
One of my favourite things about this house is the abundance of art which has been so thoughtfully arranged and curated by Lauren. The pieces not only create vignettes and zones within the house, but the art radiates from the walls and anchors the space it sits within. This house leads the way in demonstrating how awesome art doesn’t have to cost the earth and it’s not always about giant sized paint on canvases. Lauren and Matt’s house shows us that it’s about how you frame, style and hang it. Plus a keen eye for the hottest limited edition prints going around doesn’t hurt either!
From the door knobs (by Interia), to the positioning of the cot in the bedroom, to the art, the abundance of natural light, the finishes, the bedding, the perfectly matched Bugaboo Bee 3 + Van Gogh collection stroller and lush plants (by Pippis Plants), Lauren and Matt have thought of everything. What a perfect family home- just the right blend of fun vs fancy.
