Since having a little girl I have been totally captivated by everything girlie, pretty and whimsical so it was only fitting that I throw Rosie a really gorgeous party to celebrate her big ONE milestone.
I’ve always imagined hosting a pretty Garden Party – but not in the traditional soft pastel theme. I wanted to give it more of an elegant feel. Being an interior stylist I had all the details in my mind but I needed help to bring it all together so I called in the help of Ashlea Young from Plan A Events who is the master at creating a beautifully styled party. I briefed Ashlea on my overall theme of my indoor Garden party with lots of florals and pops of Raspberry. We found the perfect venue, Lucky Penny on Chapel Street which was the prettiest indoor space and provided us with a lofty white blank canvas in which to decorate….Walking into the party I was completely blown away by the magic and all the incredible little details from the custom signage, neon art, huge balloons with fairy light strings, to the decadent desert table and the amazing long table for the kids with coloured baby bentwoods which was adorned with florals on mass and a hanging floral installation overhead. The lovely Suzanne at Habitots even came along to host the prettiest craft table where Rosie’s guests could make their own flower crowns and necklaces. This was an absolute HIT and such a great idea to incorporate into a kids party.
I caught up with Ashlea to find out her top tips on how to create a memorable event. “Straight up, to stay well prepared along the planning process, I apply the three event “i’s” to guarantee originality and creativity… Inspiration, Investigation & Implementation!” Says Ashlea. Always start with a mood-board, drawing ideas from previous events, current trends, and all those pretty Pinterest saved pictures! Secondly, it’s down to sourcing those unique little bits and pieces from anywhere and everywhere; we had items from Bunnings to Spotlight to the local nursery, to bring our idea to life. Then I touch base with my go-to suppliers for the staples of any beautiful event; fine florals, big balloons, bespoke stationary and of course, boutique party-ware. From there, it’s a just a matter of laying it all out, pimp the kitchen table as if it was the party, and see what works and what doesn’t… and most importantly, if you have enough, or if in doubt, add more! A little dress rehearsal for all the details of the party will make sure there are less surprises or regrets on the day.”
